Marshall
County, home of Kentucky Lake, has been an attractive place to
retire for decades. However, the publicity associated with being
selected as one of the top retirement areas in a national
publication several years ago put the area in the spotlight. The
1995 edition of Retirement Places rated the Kentucky Lake
area, which borders Marshall and Calloway counties, 61st
on the list of 183 areas in the nation. Communities move up and
down the list as new editions are published. No major changes have
occurred since the area acquired this ranking. Therefore, Marshall
County remains an attractive area to retire for people who enjoy
the outdoors, a four season climate and a location within a day’s
drive of 70% of the United States population. Also, Kentucky only
taxes your pension and
retirement income from all sources on any amount greater than
$39,400 per year per person.
